Horizontal directional drilling is a minimal impact trenchless method of installing underground utilities such as pipe, conduit, or cables. These infrastructural components are installed in a relatively shallow arc or radius along a prescribed underground path, where a surface-launched drilling rig is used. Horizontal boring provides unique environmental advantages over traditional cut and cover pipeline/utility installations.

Our horizontal boring technology is suitable for a variety of soil conditions including clay, silt, sand, and rock. It provides less traffic disruption, greater affordability, deeper and/or longer installation, no access pit, timelier job completion, enhanced directional capabilities, and improved environmental safety.

Three stages are in involved in the process of horizontal boring: horizontal drilling then widening the bore hole and installing the pipes. Holes are drilled horizontally, then reamers are attached on the exit side of the hole and dragged back through to widen the gap in preparation for pipe installation. The pipes are then fitted to the reamer at the exit hole and dragged backwards into position.
